Coir in our growing media

Coir, derived from the fibrous husk of coconuts through mechanical processing, has emerged as a renewable and highly effective raw material for horticultural substrates. Known for its excellent water retention, aeration, and drainage properties, coir provides an ideal growing medium for a wide range of plants.

For berries, coir’s superior water retention ensures consistent moisture levels, promoting healthy root development and higher yields. Ornamental plants such as orchids and ferns benefit from coir’s excellent aeration, which prevents root rot and supports robust growth. Additionally, seedlings and young plants thrive in coir substrates due to their balanced nutrient retention and easy root penetration.

Coir also boasts good wettability characteristics and is often mixed with other constituents in mixes for sowing, propagating, and potting. As an industrial side stream, coir is a renewable raw material for substrates, contributing to sustainable horticultural practices. Its natural resistance to pests and diseases further enhances its appeal, making it an excellent choice for both commercial growers and home gardeners.
